It all began with curiosity.
Cosmoss grew from years of observing the natural world, and a simple desire to share that sense of wonder with others.
From the beautiful jungles of Ranthambore to expansive savannah of Serengeti to the cosy and familiar routes of my neighbourhood botanical gardens I have stopped and wondered at various forms of nature’s marvel. Over the years my curiosity has shown me beautiful scenes from across the world. The seasonal bloom of the semal trees from my balcony, having breakfast in my safari tent as 200 odd zebras walk in front of me, a wildebeest giving birth, finding 6 trees that have spotted owlet nests in a park that I often visit or mulling over hummingbird hawkmoths in lavender bushes in a cool corner of Europe.
Every time, I pause and wonder with the same awe. I love identifying the birds, flowers, plants, bugs etc that cross my way. In my wandering journey it was time to pause yet again and share my story with you.
When I became a mother of two under two it was a definite pause to the wildlife safaris, I love to take but it was a chance to introduce the wonderful world of nature to my children. Motherhood is also about connecting the child in me to my children. That means showing them what I am and that means finding a way to communicate my interests to them. I love going on nature walks. It is on these walks that I photograph almost everything that catches my fancy, a slug, a bug, a tall sunflower or a spotted owlet couple on the Neem Tree. I wanted to introduce them to nature not with encyclopaedia photos or photos from the web. I wanted to personalise this experience. I wanted them to see what is around them in a tangible form. In came the photos of intangible beauties that don’t last forever. The flowers. If you are a parent or a caregiver, you would’ve noticed that whenever you take a baby near a bright coloured flower their instinct is to catch hold of it and keep a piece of it in their tiny little fists. My flashcards are that piece that your child can hold onto even after the seasonal blooms have withered away or the evergreeens are out of sight.
So, I put together 51 of my best bloom photos. Categorised them into four categories as per the colours. The Whites, the lavender, blues and purple, the pink and reds and the yellow and oranges. The big sized cards make them easy to hold and flip. On flipping you will find intriguing information about the said flower like the local name, interesting facts and where you can find the flower. I fully encourage you take a flower tour with your child and mark the card with a tiny tick when you find the flower. You will be surprised at how much bounty even your humble neighbourhood holds.
